Langhorne Creek McLaren Vale

Two terrific winegrowing regions in Oz for Cabernet are ocean-cooled Langhorne Creek and the warmer slopes of McLaren Vale. Portmann delivers the best from both, delivering a rich, dark, full-on Cabernet with crunchy cassis and a ripple of mint.

The Wine
Portmann delivers the fruit of not just one great region, but two. Langhorne Creek is part of prized Fleurieu, south of Adelaide, with a climate cooled by winds off the Southern Ocean. Cabernet is a star of the area, in this wine shining through with its bright crunchy cassis, silky tannins and hint of eucalyptus. The other is from the renowned McLaren Vale, further north and warmer. That parcel brings denser dark fruits, spice and black olive savouriness. They make for a beautifully balanced, happy marriage. For drinking now, open early and decant if you can, to let the flavours open out fully. It'll make a happy partnership with grilled steak on the barbie, long-cooked lamb shanks or a smoky, black bean casserole. No rush with this wine.
