Château de Francs 2018
Francs Côtes de Bordeaux AOC

With Château Angélus's Hubert de Boüard and Dominique Hébrard, formerly of Cheval Blanc, in charge, you can be assured of a very special claret. Largely Merlot and aged in part new oak, it's velvety, ripe, long and complex. A pleasure now or cellar.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.
But don't worry, you'll find plenty more handpicked wines here.

The Wine
The beautifully restored, medieval Château de Francs has been the pet project of school friends Hubert de Boüard of Château Angélus and Dominique Hébrard, formerly of Château Cheval Blanc, since the 1980s. With such illustrious backgrounds, it was perhaps surprising that the two decided to invest in little known Côtes de Francs, Bordeaux’s smallest, sunniest appellation. But it has proved a propitious move. Made mostly from hand-harvested Merlot, supported by Cabernet, this 2018 Château de Francs will seduce you with its deep blackberry, plum and floral flavours. It’s silky and intense with ripe, concentrated fruit, while ageing in oak casks (half of them new) lends complexity and roundness. A fine claret, great with duck or steak.
