Château Brane-Cantenac 2022

Wine Advocate praised this wine: "full-bodied, deep and velvety with a fleshy core of fruit", "a terrific 2022". It's from the Lurton family's superb Margaux second growth, Brane-Cantenac. Huge cellaring potential too, if you can hold back.

The Wine
Château Brane-Cantenac has been making wine since the 17th century, when it was named Domaine Guilhem Hosten. Even in those early days it had a great reputation. It has passed through a number of families, but in 1833 was purchased by the Baron of Brane (he had to sell his other property to raise funds, an estate now called Mouton Rothschild!). In 1838 it gained its current name, partly after the village of Cantenac that it lies in. It has been in the hands of the renowned Lurton family for nearly a century, improved considerably by Lucien Lurton, and now capably managed by his son, Henri. Its 75 hectares of vines are planted on deep gravel soil and its wines are regularly given top ratings, this 2022 gaining 96-97pts. Great potential.
