The Wine
Argentina's Malbec is a wine phenomenon nearly as great as Marlborough's Sauvignon Blanc. Red wine lovers have taken to it with a passion. The finest and most ageworthy come from Mendoza's Uco Valley, the highest stretches of which lie at well over 1200 metres. Parcel Selecta is an exciting one-off opportunity to secure this special project red. It's from an ace cellar, named as a 'New World Top 5' winery. Leading their winemaking is Miriam Gomez, who has worked at some of the world's top cellars, including £355-a-bottle Opus One. Aged well over a year in barrel, the rest in bottle, this fine red has dark plum, cassis, strawberry and cherry notes, rippled by the toasty vanilla of oak. Gloriously silky, it's a great choice with steak.
