Villa Manera Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2014

Barbera d’Asti DOCG

Piedmont is home to violet scented, roses and tar Barolo that can need years to age, but it also excels with the glorious plum and cherry Barbera. This is more of a ‘drink me now’ style, although there’s no hurry with this terrific Superiore.

While Barolo tends to steal the limelight in Piedmont, Barbera is a quiet hero, producing charming reds that make delicious drinking when young, but, as you’ll see with this red, there’s no hurry either. Villa Manera, in fact, reveals the grape in all its plum and tangy cherry glory. The wine comes from the Araldica winery – a specialist in Moscato and Barbera, for which they’ve won many awards. Talented oenologist Claudio Manera heads up the team, selecting grapes from the best vineyards across the Monferrato hills. This fine 2014 is the Superiore edition, aged for a year in barrel to lend complexity to the wine’s bright fruit. With a refreshing bite, it’s both enjoyable solo and with richer dishes like pasta with duck ragù.
