The Hundred Coonawarra Merlot 2017

Coonawarra

This is a fabulous, one-off parcel of top quality, barrel aged Merlot. It’s from cooler climate Coonawarra, “Australia’s finest red wine region” (Times). Hence the rich, mouthfilling, creamy plum fruit and oaky complexity, with underlying elegance.

Our exclusive label The Hundred has played host to some amazing cuvées over the years, and this luscious Merlot is one of the best yet. It comes from Coonawarra, which recently produced Australia’s first $1000 bottle of wine – Penfolds Bin 620. This exclusive parcel may not be in quite the same league but nonetheless it’s great quality, and exceptionally good value. As the wine is from an estate that normally commands much higher prices, we’re sworn to secrecy on its precise provenance. Rest assured it’s from the region’s famed terra rossa soils and was aged in fine oak casks. From Coonawarra’s highly rated 2017 harvest, it’s rich and ripely plummy with an integrated spicy character. Decant prior to serving with roast lamb or beef.
