More information
Taylor’s produce arguably the finest and most ageworthy vintage ports. They own three estates, including Quinta de Vargellas, and after every harvest each property’s finest wines are kept aside to age. After two years, a tasting panel judges whether the wines are worthy of being declared ‘vintage’. 2013 had a difficult harvest and was not generally declared. Quinta de Vargellas, however, was one of Taylor's first estates to start picking and brought in enough grapes before the rains to make a gloriously rich, ageworthy, single-quinta port. Grapes are pressed the traditional way, trodden by foot in granite lagares, then cool fermented in stainless steel tanks. This vintage port is young and, although delicious now, will improve with age.
