Growing up in rural Puglia with his grandfather, Angelo Maci developed a huge love of the land. He trained as a winemaker, then decided his mission was to save the region's ancient vines and winemaking traditions. He wanted farmers to receive proper recompense for the superb quality of their low yield grapes. For that reason, he set up the Cantine Due Palme, initially with just 15 growers. Today there are over 1000, and it’s been named ‘Italian Winery of the Year’ three times. Angelo has been named ‘Winemaker of the Year’ twice, and won a Lifetime Achievement award. This is their flagship red, reserved under this special label for Confratelli. It’s a luscious wine – mostly Negroamaro, with a portion air-dried grapes like in a pricy Amarone.
