Hungary’s remarkable Tokaj region has enjoyed royal patronage for over 400 years. From its most dynamic cellar, this is a divine sweet white – not a traditional Tokaji but a Late Harvest wine with intense honeyed fruit and brilliant freshness.

Since 1600 Hungary’s Tokaji Aszú has been hailed as the finest wine in the world. It suffered during the Communist era but is now proving itself again, thanks in large part to the Royal Tokaji Company – brainchild of the world’s favourite wine writer, Hugh Johnson. With foreign investment, he helped found the company in 1990. From the outset their aim was to make only the finest – to produce “wine that would make angels sing out loud in praise” (Hugh Johnson). To this end they acquired 20 First Growth and 60 Second Growth vineyards. Most of the wines from their winery are a modern version of Tokaji Aszú. However, they also produce this divine Late Harvest. Intense honeyed fruit with brilliant acidity, it’s ideal with a creamy apricot tart.
