Capellanía is a spectacular white Rioja Reserva made from low yielding, highest altitude, 65 year old vines on the great Ygay estate. It’s had 15 months in new French oak, yet the wine is fresh, still vigorous with breathtaking harmony and length.

In 1852, Luciano Murrieta produced the first Rioja wine and was later appointed Marqués by King Amadeo of Savoy for his work. He brought Bordeaux winemaking techniques to Rioja and established the concept of ‘château’ by building the now emblematic Castillo Ygay. Today Marqués de Murrieta and their Ygay estate proudly uphold Rioja’s greatest traditions and make wine masterpieces renowned worldwide. The Viura grapes for this magnificent Capellanía Reserva come from a single vineyard planted in 1945 at 485 metres on the Ygay estate. Aged for 15 months in new 225-litre oak barrels (of which Castillo Ygay houses some 14,000), it’s a breathtaking, ageworthy style of white Rioja. Decant half an hour beforehand to release its aromatic potential.
