Le Malbec d’Hervé 2019

Pays d'Oc IGP

Here's a cracking new red from Hervé Sabardeil, winemaker behind favourites Cabalié to Chante Clair. He discovered some 30 year old Malbec vines in the Languedoc. Grapes were top quality, fruit was appealing. Enjoy his silky, new, ripe fruit red.

Hasn't Malbec come a long way! It used to produce the tough, tannic reds of SW France, then Argentina got a hold of it and made it a worldwide star. Now France is trying with it again and showing just how delicious its wines are with refined techniques and careful handling. Hervé discovered a plot of 30 year old vines in the Languedoc's Vallée de l'Orb, with soils covered with those big galets roulés stones that promote lovely intensity in the grapes. He was impressed with the fruit and bagged the lot. Hand harvesting, gentle handling, just a week with juice on skins, have resulted in a silky, ripe, supple wine, with red and black fruit tinged with herbs and liquorice. A fine choice with marinaded pork chops, roast chicken or veggie kebabs.

"The Languedoc provides a wonderful playground of grapes for a winemaker. Try my new silky red" Hervé Sabardeil
