Le Coq Léon 2018

Vin de France

Here’s the red we’ll be reaching for by the glassful all summer long. Named after pet cockerel Léon, the official guardian of the Piron grapes, Coq Léon has to be the brightest, juiciest, most berry-packed bottle to come out of Beaujolais in years.

The Piron team are some of the best Beaujolais winemakers we know. Proper wine people. The kind that spend every hour in the vineyard. So, as you'd expect from such award-winning producers, they only trust the best to keep the vines free of pests. Enter trusty pet cockerel, Léon. He spends his days vigilantly roaming the vineyards keeping their fine grapes pest-free. Now the team have decided to give Léon the credit he deserves: his very own wine. And boy is it worthy of such a hero bird, full of bright, juicy berry-packed Beaujolais flavour. So why no “Beaujolais” on the label? Well, alongside the Gamay grape there’s a little dark and rich Gamaret. It's not allowed under Beaujolais rules, but we don't think you'll mind when you taste it.

"Gloriously fruity and gulpable. Beaujolais freshness and red fruit with a round and rich palate" Sarah Everden
