Kilikanoon Baudinet Riesling 2018

Clare Valley

This single vineyard Riesling is from the Trillian’s Hill Vineyard, owned by Kilikanoon grower Bruce Baudinet. The grapes are from low-yielding vines, always hand-picked. We love its intense peach and citrus flavour, with clean, zingy acidity.

This wine is crafted by Kevin Mitchell, whose flagship Shiraz rates a huge 98 points from Robert Parker and sells for around $250 a bottle. Kevin, from a long line of grape growers, finally got to indulge his creative side with his own brand in 1997, when he and his father Mort bought a block of vines in Penwortham in Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley and founded Kilikanoon. Since then, Kilikanoon has been voted ‘Winery of the Year’ by James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion in 2013 and by Germany’s Mundus Vini in 2010, 2017 and 2018. Riesling is another speciality. The ‘Baudinet’ is charged with fresh, intense citrus notes that evolve and develop on the palate in fabulous style. It’s perfect with grilled prawns or a Caesar salad.
