Brauneberg is one of the top communes of the Mosel, and Juffer one of its most prized vineyards. It lies on a bend of the Mosel river with perfect south facing exposure and iron rich, heat retaining slate soils. Slopes are so steep, everything is done by hand. Indeed, it’s hard to imagine terroir better suited to Riesling. Jobst Julius Karp is the talented winemaker at this renowned 17th century family estate. With tricky spring frosts, 2017 was a challenging vintage for him, but he was pleased with the quality of the wines. This exquisite Kabinett is not only aromatic, ripe tasting and intense, it has beautiful balance and a lively, refreshing zing, typical of great Riesling. An ideal apéritif, and also well suited to fish and salads.
