Pinot Grigio’s heartland has to be Italy. It was here in the land of vines that the snappy-fresh, apple-crisp style saw its international stardom. Yet this much-loved white grape also grows in many other parts of the world, with panache. When Italian brothers Michele and Domenico Scarfone emigrated to Australia in 1956, they decided to take a piece of home with them. Settling in the Riverina, in the southwest of New South Wales, they planted their first vines a year later. Three generations on, Adrian Bianchini and Fernando Rombola have expanded their grandfathers original parcel of land. This is their estate Pinot Grigio, a crisp white that has the perfect balance of ripe fruit and zestiness. Great solo or with soft cheese or seafood.
