Domaine Dampt Petit Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2021

Petit Chablis AOC

Petit Chablis comes from soils just outside the hallowed area of Chablis proper, but when it tastes as good as this minerally, citrusy, intense 2021, it’s hard to spot the difference. From a highly awarded family estate, this is a fine white.

Although the village of Chablis is tiny, its influence and fame is anything but. So outstanding are the flavours of its Chardonnay wines that Chablis has inspired imitations (inevitably never as fine) as far afield as California and Australia. The long established Dampt estate makes textbook Chablis, but it is this wine, from vineyards designated Petit Chablis, that offers the smartest entrée to their range. By employing the same exacting standards of vineyard management as they do for their top wines, the Dampt brothers achieve surprisingly concentrated flavours, classic summer hay aromas, and that all important streak of bone dry minerality. It's ready to drink earlier too. Enjoy with freshly shucked oysters, salmon or vegetable terrine.
