A “supremely sumptuous and aristocratic symphony” – that’s how Sofia Barbanera describes this red. She won’t disclose its exact blend of grapes, but we can tell you where they’re from – premium sites in Puglia, Sicily and Tuscany. Sofia is winemaker for her family’s third generation estate near Tuscany’s prized Montalcino region, which has won many prizes including Trophy for ‘Best Red Wine of the Year’ and 98 points from critic Luca Maroni. Although shy of revealing the exact grape blend (in case of imitators), she explains they are chosen to produce a beautifully balanced wine. Hence its name – ContraPosto (Italian for counterpoise) – a balance of regional styles. Rich yet elegant, it’s ideal with rich pasta dishes and roast meats.
