  • Gold, Concours de Bordeaux Vins d'Aquitaine, 2019
  • Gold, Guide Gilbert & Gaillard, 2019

Here’s a pretty claret with two Golds and well priced to boot. It’s a perfectly mature Cru Bourgeois Médoc from a vintage that’s now really coming into its own. Yet, there's no rush. Mature, complex red fruits with gentle oak from a year in barrel.

Bordeaux’s left bank appellation of Médoc is home to bold, classic claret that’s made to last. Even better, Château Pierre de Montignac is Cru Bourgeois – a classification that is awarded each year to wines of exceptional quality and depth. It’s a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that’s aged for 12 months in oak. It’s from Bordeaux’s 2012 vintage, an under rated vintage whose best wines – like this – are now drinking perfectly. Roger Voss of Wine Enthusiast was hugely impressed: “For the vintage, this is a ripe, bold wine. Layers of delicious black fruits are supported by firm tannins and the right amount of wood aging. Balanced and dense, it will age well.” Stand the bottle upright a few hours and pour carefully in case of sediment.
