Hard to believe now, but in the 1920s Saint Émilion and Pomerol were not on the fine wine map of Bordeaux. Visionary Jean Pierre Moueix, however, saw the potential in Merlot and the clay soils and began acquiring vineyards. The first being Château La Fleur Pétrus. Since then it has been an unfolding of success. Château Morillon is one of the special wineries overseen by the family. Winemaker, Emmanuel Coudroy, is a firm believer in organic practices to obtain the best fruit, while the wine's impressive concentration comes from 40 year old Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines. The Merlot rich blend is then slowly matured in 50% new oak barrels, adding notes of spice and vanilla. Now with six years age, it is drinking well now. Ideal with game.
