From a very fine vintage, offering "finesse, perfume and aromatic intensity" (RobertParker.com) and "overall balance and charm" (Jeb Dunnock), this is a superb 92-point Margaux. A showpiece in magnum and, although drinking well now, is best cellared.

Beyond the beautiful cream stone façade of the 1821 château, Labégorce offers a fine, classic Margaux that doesn't cost the earth. Dating back to the 14th century, it used to be one of the largest estates of the Médoc, even when it was divided into three during the French Revolution. Hubert Perrodo bought it in 1989 and set about rejoining the original trio of vineyards. His daughter Nathalie today runs this property, along with the family's other Haut Médoc estates, most notably Marquis d'Alesme. Labégorce boasts 65 hectares of vines, largely Cabernet Sauvignon but with today an increased percentage of Merlot and vines up to a century old. 15 months in half new oak lends a rich layer of spice that'll round out with age. A fine dinner wine.
