Son of hugely talented Gérard, Nicolas Potel is a winemaker of even greater genius. Neal Martin of Vinous describes his 2017s as "absolutely delicious". This top vintage, old vine Puligny has lovely poised fruit with steely freshness. Very appealing.

Roche de Bellene is the craftsmanship of Nicolas Potel, who learnt from his renowned father, Gérard, studied in Beaune, then gained experience in Australia and California. His father's early death meant the family estate had to be sold and Nicolas had to build up from nothing. At his new enterprise Nicolas makes some own domaine wines and also sources top quality, old vine parcels to make a broader range of wines. He is meticulous in every aspect of the process, a perfectionist, which shows in the quality of his wines. From a vintage that offered, "quality, quantity and great charm," (Vinous) this is a Puligny Montrachet to snap up. Already delicious, serve cellar cool with fine white meat or fish dishes. Decant early. Alternatively cellar.
