Gevrey Chambertin is one of the star appellations of the Côte de Nuits, highly regarded for its intense, elegant, potent Pinot Noir. Style varies from producer to producer, but we very much recommend the wines of this charming family estate. Benoît Stehly took over from his uncle – Georges, grandson of the founder – in 2008 and under his steady hands (stained reassuringly purple all year round) the estate’s wines "have become finer and finer” (Jancis Robinson). Benoît’s Gevrey is crafted from hand-picked grapes from well-placed, south-facing vineyards to ensure an appealing ripeness, while ageing in seasoned oak for 18 months lends a gentle spice complexity. A wine that'll reward ageing or decant and serve with pheasant or coq au vin.
