Superb second wine from this great Saint-Estèphe estate, showing much of the class of Cos, the wine is already approachable and well priced. Like many top Bordeaux châteaux, Cos d’Estournel uses grapes from younger vines to make a second wine, one that has many of the characteristics of the Grand Vin, but is ready to drink sooner. Les Pagodes takes its name from the ornate building in which the wines are made, which resembles an oriental pagoda. Critic James Suckling awarded the 2018 vintage 95 points, describing its “full body with super concentration of fruit, yet forever polished and long. A cylinder of wonderfully ripe fruit and tannins goes on for minutes”. A superb second wine, with 30% new oak, it'll improve with cellaring.
