Château Calon-Ségur is a leading star in Saint-Estèphe, classified as Third Growth in 1855. Its terroir is revered as one of Bordeaux’s finest. During the 18th century, it was the property of Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur, known as the ‘Prince of Vines’. Marquis de Calon is its much praised second wine. Merlot dominated and from younger vines, it is made to have more immediate appeal. Still, with 17 months ageing in barrel, 30% of that new, it's serious and will age. The vintage has been well reviewed. Wine Advocate described it with, "opulent scents of Indian spices, menthol and plum preserves with a core of crème de cassis, baked cherries and raspberry pie plus a hint of sandalwood". Drinking well now or will cellar. A most appealing claret.

"Big, rich, full-bodied and voluptuously fruited in the mouth, it has bags of black fruit preserves" Lis Perrotti-Brown
