Wine Advocate describes Benjamin Leroux as “a very talented winemaker”. He made his name at the renowned Comte Armand but his dream was to get back to his roots and make his own wines from vine to bottle. He owns a few vineyards and augments this with fruit from other top-quality growers. Premier Cru Les Baudines lies at the highest point of the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, at 315 metres altitude. As a result, its wines have a taut backbone of acidity that takes time to open out and gain opulence. Still, patience will certainly be rewarded. For drinking now, simply open early and decant. 2019 was described by James Suckling as a year that "hit the bullseye" for Burgundy. A fine Premier Cru to be enjoyed with turbot or scallops perhaps.
