Domaine Joseph Matrot Meursault Premier Cru Perrières 2019

Meursault Premier Cru AOC

An "understated, and really fine" (JM) 94-97pt Meursault, an appellation that offers “a meeting of softness and succulence with thirst quenching clarity and cut” (Hugh Johnson). Many regard Perrières as Grand Cru worthy, borne out in this 2019.

Critic Neal Martin wrote, "great wines are being made at this address." That address is Domaine Matrot, a top-class estate founded in 1909 by Joseph Matrot, passed to his son Thierry and handed over to granddaughters, Elsa and Adèle, in 2015. They are generally regarded as "a top-class Meursault producer" (Wine International), with some of the best plots in the region. Here, however, quality goes even higher. It's from the Premier Cru Perrières, widely regarded as Meursault's finest and worthy of promoting to Grand Cru level. The sisters like to pick early and use oak very sparingly, so the fruit and the vineyard do all the talking. Eleven months lees ageing brings creamy flavour and weight, underscored by classic minerality (‘the cut’).

"There is everything here, including good natural acidity. Understated, and really fine" Jasper Morris
