This is an exciting new-release from Moldova – a white wine made from red grapes. Using all Cabernet, it has a satisfying weight and roundness, almost like a Viognier, yet with lovely freshness too. Delicious and intriguing, it’s too good to miss.

It’s rare to find a Blanc de Cabernet, but the winemaker at this Moldovan cellar, Marian Haraba, is a master of the style and over the years has won many awards for it. A cold biting wind in the naturally organic vineyards of Stefan Voda ensures a lovely aromatic freshness, but it takes considerable skill to obtain the flavour from the Cabernet grape skins, without the colour. This wine is from a well equipped winery, set up in 1994. It’s benefitted from considerable investment both in the cellar and in the vineyards. Enjoy Albastrele’s weighty roundness, almost like a Viognier, with candied fruit and hints of strawberry. A real charmer and certain to perplex at any blind tasting! Chill down and enjoy with fish pie or creamy risotto.
