Château Calon-Ségur is a leading star in Saint Estèphe, classified as a Third Growth in 1855. Its terroir is revered as one of Bordeaux’s finest. During the 18th century, it was the property of Nicolas Alexandre de Ségur, known as the ‘Prince of Vines’. Marquis de Calon is its much praised second wine. Merlot dominated and from younger vines, it is made to have more immediate appeal. Still, with ageing of 17 months in barrel, 30% new oak, it's serious and will age. The vintage has been well reviewed. Wine Advocate described it as, "meaty and earthy with baked plums, mulberries, cassis and woodsmoke aromas. Elegant, fresh and soft". The fruit is quite juicy too with soft tannins, so it drinks well now or will cellar. A most appealing claret.

"Terra cotta, red-berry pastry and a wild-herb thread. Firm, wrapped tannin, cradling ripe cassis" James Suckling
