Every day Davide Di Prima tends his ancient plot of Syrah vines. More often than not, you’ll find him helped by his parents – and their grandchildren. Being high on the slopes, they have a fantastic view over Lake Arancio, home to the oldest and best vineyards in Sicily.

Davide’s vineyard even looks down on the Planeta estate. This world-famous winery put the island on the fine wine map with its Syrah in the 1990s. Thanks to those higher vines, the Di Prima Syrah has an extra richness to it from all that extra-ripe fruit. Here’s the tasting note: billowing aromas of ripe plums, juicy black cherries and spicy oak. Unctuously mouthfilling, with notes of mocha and dark chocolate. Glorious stuff.
