The lost valley – Vale Perdido – is part of José Oliveira da Silva’s family estate in the beautiful, centuries-old wine country north of Lisbon. It is a fabulous fourth generation estate, one with the Midas touch too. It has won over 1,000 medals in the last five years alone – of which over 500 have been Gold.

Vale Perdido was the first red we bought from them back in 2003 – a time when Portugal was known as “the land the supermarkets forgot” (more fool them).

Since then this black-fruited gem has bagged 10 medals itself, including six Golds. It is exactly why we have championed Portugal’s wines for
so long.
